Switzerland is a land of pastures, with 80 % of the usable alpine and agricultural area being grassland. Using pastures for suckler cow husbandry is sustainable, ecological and resource-saving. Meat from grass is species-appropriate and animal welfare-oriented.
There are 34 beef cattle breeds in Switzerland: from A for Angus through Charolais, Limousin and Simmental to Z for Zebu.
The calf lives with its mother. Suckler cows benefit from grazing or access to an outdoor exercise area on a daily basis.
